In my thesis project “I’m a sponge, and my mind is a room” I have analysed and produced different kinds of bodies.
I propose a system in which objects communicate with each other through the way they are arranged as I let them position themselves without hierarchy in relations to one another.
To get into this dialog, I had to first personally talk with them, and listen to their presence.
Their variance in materials and character in the likes of textile, leather, marble and bronze, is consequently brought together by my aesthetic treatment.
By applying a precise set of geometric lines and proportions in a simultaneous process that takes each element and the conscious choice of materials into consideration, this approach has allowed me to build a set of bodies that fostered an understanding of how spaces and shapes coexistence and engage with each other.
The figurative origin of these bodies is based on the continuous gathering of what surrounded me in the past years and the desire to analyse it to the core.
Like a “sponge” I have passively absorbed, and now I am activated to squeeze myself and let my juices show.
Through the lens of my geometry I break down the origin of the elements that I have collected and bring them together.
Objects, shadows, patterns, stains and surfaces are translated into clothes, accessories, sculptures and spaces.
This production served to challenge my analytical and applied practice whilst simultaneously testing and pushing the internalised norms that different kind of bodies and practices have to one another.
Everything I absorbed
Has furnished my room
And now that I have to move out
I squeeze and show my essence
